Johann Gronow lived on Plauer Strasse

Johann Friederich Heinrich Gronow married Johannah Maria Fischer in Lübz in 1836. Their first 7 children were born in Lübz. In 1849, Johann and Johannah took their youngest children and moved to the United States. They had 4 more children after settling in Illinois, where Johann the ropemaker became John the farmer.

When I visited Lübz in 2008, the little gold nameplate in the doorway of this house said K. Gronow. Johann's older children never came to America. I have high hopes that this K. Gronow is descended from one them, and that this building has housed Gronows for centuries.
